6:00 PM - Went running after work; sunny. Humid and temps in the mid 80s. Yuck. Went slowly. Felt pretty good. Really wish I could move forward progress wise though. I have to remember slow, steady progress. Hopefully I can shoot for a 5 or 6 miler next week. Did a nice bit of stretching after my jog and walked back to the car. Ended up with 3.25 miles total. Not a bad jog. Is it safe to say I'm a runner again? Or at least a jogger?

YES !!

You are a runner again. You might even hit 20 miles for the week if you go out tomorrow.

Slow is good. I'm glad you're easing back into it. Be the turtle, not the hare.

Alright I'm a runner! YAY! I was going to run today, Saturday, but it is supposed to rain all day 5 inches or so and I am going for a long hike with Emma and my family tomorrow *8 plus miles up in the Adirondacks. So it looks like I'll have to wait until next week for the 20 mile week. Oh what a sweet victory that will be!

Oh and Michelle - I printed out a 10 wk guide of upping my mileage from 18 to 30 miles a week culminating in a 15k race that I've done the last four years. I don't think I'll race it. I just want to be able to finish it and live to fight another day. Do you think it would be smart of me to play it by ear and if I feel okay to go ahead and run that day? It's 9.3 miles though is the only thing. It's just I know winter is soon going to be upon us once again and all the fitness I struggled to build is going to be wasted again you know?

From MichelleL on Sep 06, 2008 at 07:27:27

I don't think it has to take 10 weeks to go from 18 to 30, but you've had a hard fight back, so you wouldn't want to take risks that might take you back to zero, so I'd say go ahead and do the plan, always listening to your body. Only do the 15k if the 10 weeks go perfectly -- meaning no twinges in the achilles or the calves, and you've been able to work up to an eight miler or more.

Benn, Michelle is right on. Good for you to be back to running. Remember how good it feels to run without the Achilles pain. And remember the biking you have done has been great aerobic exercise so you got the benefits, enjoy.

Once a runner, always a runner:)
